In "Beast," Vijay plays Veera, a former employee of India's Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), an espionage agency with superhuman resourcefulness.

Veera departed from RAW eleven years prior to the present day of the film; in an opening flashback, he accidently uses a rocket launcher to accidentally kill a young child. Look, we need to take a paragraph break because there is no way to make this plot sound any less insane than it is.

Okay, so Veera is now especially sensitive to children, which explains why he doesn't act again until after the ISIS-inspired ISS terrorists take over Chennai's East Coast Mall and he, now working for a failed security business, hears the cries of anxious youngsters.

We can know these terrorists are brutal because of the way one of them backhands a woman.
